A tribute to Bill Royds

Trillium Hills

We stand among

Trilliums flowering

pink, white and rose,

listening to Wood Thrush’s

silver fluting

resonating above throughout

the greening trees.

Notes: The photograph was made in early May, at a Canada eco-zone elevation in Piedmont Hills near the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia, which is also a state wildlife area and registered site of the Virginia Native Plant Society. Bill Royds once told me that Trilliums were one of his favourite flowers. He might have enjoyed visiting this place and he might have appreciated these Trillium inter-relations of North and South.
