Bob Brocklebank, President of the Glebe Community Association, advises:
A group of developers has presented a proposal called Lansdowne Live to the City of Ottawa. The developers are requesting a 30-year lease to Lansdowne Park and propose to build a large commercial-residential-retail-entertainment complex with a hotel and an aquarium. They want the City to renovate/rebuild the Frank Clair Stadium and the Civic Centre. The proposal includes sports fields and some green space to be built by taxpayers. The proponents state that they want the City to give them an answer on their proposal by the end of March 2009 so they can secure a CFL franchise.
The public consultations about Lansdowne Park's future and the preparation of a design/build competition for the site have been suspended. Since there is no public process for soliciting citizen input on the developers’ Lansdowne Live proposal, the Glebe Community Association has launched a survey to see what the people of Ottawa think about it. Please take a few minutes to answer 10 questions. To access the survey, go to the website www.glebeca.ca and follow the link.
It would be greatly appreciated if you could circulate this link among your friends, family, neighbours and colleagues. We need to hear from the people of Ottawa about what they think should happen with Lansdowne Park.
